Christmas began early at Triad this year…

During July the BBC filmed Sarah Phelp’s adaption of Charles Dickens Great Expectations at Holdenby house. The three-part drama, which will form the centrepiece of the BBC’s celebration of the 2012 bicentenary of Dickens’s birth, will be part of BBC1's Christmas programming.

Holdenby House was transformed for the duration of the production, with the approaches replaced by dirt tracks and the House itself changed to reflect the crumbling, dark, suspenseful atmosphere of the Dickens drama…

The stars of Great Expectations include Ray Winstone, who plays the part of Abel Magwitch alongside Douglas Booth, who plays Pip.
'Great Expectations is my favourite novel, and I’m thrilled to be playing Magwitch. I’ve wanted to play him for ages,' Winstone said.

American actress Gillian Anderson, known as agent Scully in the X Files, cuts a ghostly figure as the tormented Miss Haversham and David Suchet, known for his role as Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot in the long-running British TV dramatic series Poirot, plays Miss Haversham’s lawyer, Mr Jaggers.

We all had to be on our best behaviour during the filming with the estate converted into a film set and surrounded by actors in period costume.
It was amazing for us to see the main courtyard of Holdenby House, filmed on a clear summers day, transformed to become a foggy, murky scene…. Similar to something we had done ourselves some years ago when creating a World War I trench scene for a Christmas card...
